How to make the most of RVC’s social events

In addition to scheduled  appointments, RVC offers a number and range of social events for the benefit and networking of  delegates. Find all details here and check out our tips for making the most out of these networking opportunities. This year’s RVC social calendar includes:

  • Tuesday – Welcome to Canada Opening Reception from 6:30 – 8 pm at the Hyatt Regency Hotel – Imperial Ballroom
  • Wednesday – Western Wednesday Rodeo lunch hosted by the Calgary Stampede from 12 -2 pm at the Agrium Western Event Centre (BMO Centre)
  • Thursday – Niagara Falls Tourism luncheon from 12 – 1:30 pm BMO Centre – Hall C, and the “All the Stars” evening hosted by Tourism Calgary and Travel Alberta from 7 – 10 pm at Studio Bell
  • Friday – Travel Manitoba luncheon from 12 – 1:30 pm at BMO Centre – Hall C, and Closing Reception hosted by TIAC and Tourism Nova Scotia from 5 – 6:30 pm at BMO Centre – Hall C

Plan to network with those you do not have appointments with

Couldn’t fit a specific buyer or seller into your appointment schedule? Plan to approach them during an RVC social event. Briefly research the companies you would like to connect with before attending so you are prepared to take advantage of any opportunity that arises. Keep in mind, delegates can be easily identified by badge colour: buyers have red badges and sellers have black.

Have your whole team attend

RVC social events are meant for everyone! It is likely that your RVC team is made up of various delegates with different skillsets, including sales, marketing, buyers, etc. Having all your team members attend the events increases your chances of meeting new prospects and forging new connections.

Be a good listener

Keep in mind that you are at an event and not in an appointment, and therefore you should approach potential delegates accordingly. Try asking thoughtful questions and focus on listening to what your connection is saying. If they want to talk business only, then by all means, indulge them. If, however, they seem more interested in chatting about another topic, this is ok as well. Just make sure you exchange information at some point so you can reconvene your business talk at a later time.

Have fun!

RVC social events have been meticulously planned by sponsors and hosts to ensure a heightened and enjoyable experience for all delegates. Above all, make sure to enjoy yourselves!
